●Others: Coop Kitakagaya is a collaborative studio to “realize another society” that attracts people and organizations from a variety of fields, such as art, alternative media, archives, architecture, community studies, circles, and non-profit organizations. It started in April 2009 by renovating a former furniture factory. Approximately 300 square meters of space contains shared facilities including offices, a kitchen, a salon, a library, and a gallery. People at Coop Kitakagaya are autonomously working in their own fields of interest.
Surrounding Environment
Kitakagaya area in Osaka city thrived on heavy industry, shipbuilding in particular, in the 1920s. As time went by, however, the shift in focused industries and transfer of production centers to outside the area resulted in decline of the area.
In last several years, young people and organizations involved in cultural and art activities placed their bases in this area, and they are establishing their own network.
