Surrounding Environment
Kofu City has a population of approx. 200,000 people. This regional city is located in the center of the Kofu Basin, surrounded by Japan’s renowned mountains, such as Mt. Fuji, Minami Alps, and the Yatsugatake mountains. AIRY is right across from an elementary school; this location allows artists to feel seasonal changes when working on their artwork. Convenient location with a railway station and a library nearby.
8 minutes walk from JR Kofu Station.

AIRY was established to meet growing needs for providing contemporary artists in a regional city with opportunities to expose various expression styles that can inspire their artistic activities.

Program Objectives
○Support artists in developing a network, exposing to a variety of expression styles, meeting with local people and staying in an unfamiliar place through their art creation activities.
○Showcase contemporary art created in a regional area by nurturing artists, curators and other cultural and artistic leaders.
Program Activities
* Two exchange programs are called “home” and “away”.
Increasingly recognized as a center for various art expression activities utilizing local resources such as culture and natural environment. Expanding the breadth of its activities by not only exhibiting the art works of resident artists but also showing local artists’ works, organizing workshops, and offering educational programs. Has been welcomed artists from a total of 30 counties since its commencement in 2005.
● 10th anniversary programs in March–May 2015
○ “Ubiquitous AIR”: Residencies of four artists in four locations in Yamanashi Prefecture were simultaneously held.
○ Editing and publication of AIRY’s 10th anniversary book WE breathe AIR
