Program Objectives
Agreeing and supporting the mission of the award program by Toyota Motor Corporation, the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa organized this performance event in fiscal 2009 as part of the prize package (stage performance and residency program) that the museum offered to the grand prize winner of Toyota Choreography Award 2008. The museum will continue to organize the event for the prize winner in 2011. The purpose of the culminating performance event of the residency program in Kanazawa is to make the city a birthplace of a new dance piece, and a place of performing the first stage of the new piece; and at the same time to promote the interaction between artists and local communities through a long-term residency, and to help increase the recognition and popularity of contemporary dance among local people.
Program Activities
This two-week residence program was carried out in such a way that the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa offered a performance event site, a practice/rehearsal space, and accommodation; and Toyota Motor bore part of production costs. On the final two days, the choreography the artist worked on during the residency was performed on stage for the first time. Toward the culminating event, the artist collaborated with local theater even from the production phase, exploring new, unique possibilities of the residency program in Kanazawa.
