Surrounding Environment
Located in the central area of Japan’s second largest city near Tokyo. With its urban planning theme of “Creative City,” Yokohama has various renovated historical buildings, structures, and warehouses as well as wide-open space as a port town. From Narita International Airport, it takes approx. 90 minutes to reach Yokohama by bus or train. From Haneda Airport, approx. 30 minutes by bus or train. From Tokyo Station, approx. 30 minutes by train. From Kyoto/Osaka, approx. 2+ hours by Shinkansen bullet train and approx. 11 minute by local train (change trains at Shin Yokohama Station).

History
FY 2005: Conducted a cultural and arts exchange program with the City of Taipei, Taiwan, after the two cities agreed to promote interactions between them.
FY 2006: Conducted a cultural and arts exchange program with the City of Beijing, China, after the two cities agreed to promote interactions between them.
FY 2007 and onwards: Conduct a theater artist exchange program, inviting theatrical artists from all over the world, to explore how Yokohama can develop a unique platform for artist-in-residence programs as well as a residential program of theater performance
FY 2009: Conducted a culture and art exchange program where artists in Yokohama were sent to the Inchon Art Platform shortly after its grand opening

Program Objectives
The program aims to turn the theme, “Yokohama—The Creative City of Art and Culture,” into reality, specifically promoting cultural exchange with other Asian cities. To this end, it accepts artists from various cities around the world, who work on artistic activities, hold open-to-public events, and/or interact with Yokohama citizens and artists during their long-period stay in Yokohama. Through these activities, Yokohama City aims to promote the city and its artistic activities to other parts of Japan and to the world, and provide better environment for artistic creation.
