“S-AIR 2014 -FRONTIER- and OTHER RESIDENCY PROGRAMMES”

01_sair
This book is the record of a Sapporo-based NPO S-AIR’s residency program “Frontier” in the summer and fall of 2014. In concert with the theme “City and Nature” of the first Sapporo International Art Festival held in summer 2014, the program was conducted in cooperation with Arts Catalyst, a London-based organization engaging in activities that fuse art, science and technology. In the program, Ele Carpenter, a curator focusing on the theme of nuclear and art, was in residence for two years to conduct research. She curated an event consisting of an exhibition and a forum titled Actinium, which was attended by the British filmmaker Karen Kramer, who was also in residence at the time, and other artists, researchers, and lawyers from Japan and U.K. They also participated in fieldwork conducted in Fukushima and Hokkaido.

The fall program partnered with two other AIR programs in Japan—Tokachi Artist in Residence (T-AIR) and Ongoing AIR—to invite two artists from Vietnam and the Philippines, who stayed at the locations of these programs.
This book is bilingual, written in both Japanese and English.
